Fig Jam Toast with Caramelized Walnuts

Fig Jam Toast - Foody First

Loving the fact that figs are in-season (not here in Canada, but luckily we import a lot of produce!). They are a delicate, mild, & delicious fruit! They pair well with bold flavours like balsamic vinegar & salty cheeses. This fig toast does all that and it definitely makes you feel fancy :)

Fig Jam Toast with Caramelized Walnuts

Serves 4 // Vegetarian, Gluten Free (if using GF bread), Refined Sugar-Free


For the jam:

  • 1/2 pound (about 3) ripe figs

  • 1 tsp- 1 Tbs balsamic vinegar

  • 1 Tablespoon honey

For Caramelized Walnuts: 

  • 1/2 cup walnut pieces

  • 2 tsp honey

  • pinch cinnamon

  • pinch salt

The rest:

  • Crusty bread or a baguette, sliced thin, grilled or toasted

  • 6 figs

  • Honey

  • Feta

  • Fresh Thyme


  1. For the jam: In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, combine figs, balsamic vinegar (start with 1 tsp and add up to 1 Tbs - to taste), and honey. Stir continuously and mush up figs as they cook. Once they are very soft and broken apart you can either leave it like that or use an immersion blender to blend the jam into a smoother consistency.

  2. For the walnuts: In a small saucepan over medium heat toast the walnuts for about 2 minutes, stirring around continuously, or until fragrant. Remove from heat and add honey, and a pinch of cinnamon and salt. Stir to coat and set aside to cool.

  3. For assembly: Cut crusty bread into thin slices. Toast or grill slightly. Spread with the fig jam. Arrange sliced figs, crumbled feta, bits of fresh thyme, and the caramelized walnuts. Drizzle with honey and serve!
